The Wrestling Officials Association of Section 5 is local chapter of the N.Y. State Wrestling Officials Association. Our members are certified to referee high school Varsity, JV and Modified matches in the leagues that are part of our designated territory. Those leagues are Finger Lakes, Genesee Region, Livingston, Monroe County and Rochester.
Our members are subject to the rules and regulations of the N.Y State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) and the N.Y. State Wrestling Officials Association (NYSWOA). Members are required to have approved fingerprints on file with the NY State Dept. of Education.
Our members must annually pass the National Federation Rules Exam and attend mandatory rules interpretation meetings to be certified to officiate wrestling. They pay annual dues which includes NYSWOA dues, liability insurance, rules books and an annual banquet. Our constitution and bylaws provide more details.
The WOA of Section 5 is a member of the United Sports Boards Council (USBC) which is responsible for negotiating contracts with Section 5 that cover fees paid for all sports officials and many other work related items.
